FMA Supports Concientious Objection and Rejects Anti-Semitism and Islamaphobia

Sunday, January 14, 2024
At the January 7 Meeting for Worship with Attention to Business FMA adopted a minute against anti-semitism and islamophobia and in favor of conscientious objection in Minute 2024.01.01.

In the spirit of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr.'s wisdom, we affirm that; "Injustice anywhere is a threat to justice everywhere. We are caught in an inescapable network of mutuality, tied in a single garment of destiny. Whatever affects one directly, affects all indirectly."

With continued conflict and civil violence in the world around us, we, the Friends Meeting of Austin (Quaker), stand united in our unwavering commitment against anti-Semitism and Islamophobia. Recognizing the rise in hateful rhetoric and actions targeting Jewish, Muslim, and Arab communities worldwide, we declare our steadfast opposition to such injustices.

Additionally, we express solidarity with conscientious objectors and peace advocates, especially those in regions experiencing conflict. We acknowledge their courage in opposing the violence of war, often facing prosecution and incarceration for their commitment to peace.
